Estimate how long a balance may take to repay and how much interest may accrue with a fixed monthly payment.
Payoff Summary
How the Debt Payoff Estimate Works
The calculator applies monthly interest to the outstanding balance, subtracts the portion of the fixed payment that reduces principal, and repeats the process until the balance is paid. The annual rate is divided by 12 to estimate a monthly rate. It reports an estimated number of months, total interest, and total payments under that repeating schedule.
Payment amount matters
If the payment does not exceed the first month's estimated interest, the balance will not decrease and the tool reports that the payment is too low. The model assumes no new charges, late fees, penalty rates, payment holidays, or changes in the interest rate. Real credit agreements may use different accrual and payment rules.
Financial note: This is a simplified planning estimate, not debt-management, legal, or financial advice. Confirm balances, rates, fees, and payment rules with each creditor.
