Add, subtract, multiply, or divide two fractions, then view the simplified fraction and decimal result.
How Fraction Arithmetic Works
For addition and subtraction, the calculator uses a common denominator before combining numerators. For multiplication, it multiplies the numerators and denominators. For division, it multiplies by the reciprocal of the second fraction. It then reduces the resulting fraction using the greatest common divisor and displays a decimal equivalent.
Check denominators
A denominator cannot be zero, and division by a fraction with a zero numerator is undefined. Mixed numbers should be converted correctly to numerator and denominator before entering them.
Example and limitations
For example, 1/4 + 1/2 is evaluated by converting both fractions to a common denominator, giving 3/4. A decimal display may be rounded for presentation, while the simplified fraction remains the exact result when supported.
