How Ideal Body Weight Estimates Work

The calculator uses traditional height-based equations to produce estimated reference values from the measurements and selection entered. These equations were developed for population-level reference purposes and can return different values because each formula uses its own assumptions.

There is no single ideal number

Health is not determined by body weight alone. Body composition, medical history, age, pregnancy, activity, and other factors matter. Treat the displayed figures as formula outputs—not as a required target or a judgment about appearance.

Health note: Discuss weight goals with a qualified clinician or registered dietitian, especially when managing a health condition or making substantial dietary changes.

Example and limitations

Traditional ideal-weight equations provide reference estimates based largely on height. They do not account for body composition, health history, age-related factors, or an individual care plan.

This is a general educational estimate based on the inputs and method described above. It is not a diagnosis, treatment plan, or substitute for individualized advice from a qualified healthcare professional. Page information updated: 4 November 2026.
