Recommended Total Gain
How the Pregnancy Weight-Gain Range Is Displayed
The calculator selects a preset total-gain range based on the pre-pregnancy BMI category and whether a singleton or twin pregnancy is selected. It also produces a rough week-by-week progress estimate using a simplified linear interpolation. This is a calculation based on the tool's built-in ranges, not an individualized clinical assessment.
Why individual recommendations differ
Pregnancy care teams consider medical history, starting health, multiple pregnancy details, fetal growth, and other factors. The simplified progress line does not model all patterns of pregnancy weight change and should not be used to judge whether a pregnancy is progressing normally.
Health note: Discuss weight-gain goals with your obstetric clinician. Do not start a restrictive diet or change nutrition during pregnancy based only on this estimate.
