How the Time Card Calculator Works
The calculator subtracts the clock-in time from the clock-out time, treats an earlier clock-out time as an overnight shift, and deducts the unpaid break. It converts the result to decimal hours and multiplies by the optional hourly rate to estimate gross pay.
Formula and method
Paid minutes = elapsed shift minutes − unpaid break minutes. Decimal hours = paid minutes ÷ 60. Estimated gross pay = decimal hours × hourly rate.
Tips for better estimates
Enter times using a 24-hour clock. If a shift crosses midnight, enter the next day’s clock-out time; the calculator recognizes that as an overnight shift.
Important limitations
This page handles one shift only. It does not calculate overtime, multiple breaks, shift differentials, tips, premiums, or legally required rounding. Confirm working-time and wage rules for your location.
