How the Area Calculator Works

Choose a two-dimensional shape and enter its required dimensions. The calculator uses the standard geometric formula and reports the area in the selected square unit as well as square meters.

Formula and method

Rectangle: length × width. Triangle: (base × height) ÷ 2. Circle: π × radius². Trapezoid: ((parallel side A + parallel side B) × perpendicular height) ÷ 2.

Tips for better estimates

Use the perpendicular height for triangles and trapezoids. Make sure every length is entered in the same unit.

Important limitations

The result assumes ideal geometric shapes. Irregular boundaries, slopes, cutouts, and construction tolerances may require separate measurements or a more detailed plan.

Worked example

Example: a rectangular room that is 4 metres long and 3 metres wide has an area of 12 square metres. The calculator uses the same unit for each dimension before reporting the result.
