How the Mulch Calculator Works
The calculator multiplies the bed length, width, and mulch depth, converts the volume to cubic meters and cubic yards, adds a material allowance, and divides by the bag volume you enter. The bag count is rounded up to a whole bag.
Formula and method
Volume = bed length × bed width × depth × (1 + allowance percentage). Bags needed = total volume ÷ volume per bag, rounded up.
Tips for better estimates
Measure the area to be covered and enter depth in inches for feet mode or centimeters for meter mode. Use the actual bag volume on the product label.
Important limitations
Mulch settles and compresses, and coverage differs by material type. The result is a shopping estimate, not a guarantee of final depth after settling.
